Does treadmill consume a lot of electricity in India?
Treadmill uses electricity based on the treadmill motor itself. And there are few factors like speed, weight and time in use. The longer, the faster you are going to use it, the treadmill will consume more electricity.
One easy way to figure out the power consumption of a treadmill is this:
1 HP = 746 watts per hour.
So if you have 2 HP treadmill, then it will be 2*746 watts.
Electric bill is measured in KW (kilowatt) so a 2 HP treadmill consumes 1492 watts. 1492 watts is 1.492 KW or units.
Multiply the unit with the cost of electricity and you will get the electricity bill.
Here are some popular treadmills in India and their power consumption chart
|Treadmill Model||Power Consumption (Peak)|
|MAXPRO PTM405 2HP(4 HP Peak)||2.984 KW|
|PowerMax Fitness TD-M1-A1 (2 Hp Peak)||1.492 KW|
|Lifelong FitPro LLTM09 (2.5 HP Peak)||1.865 KW|
|Durafit Royal 3.0HP ( 6.0HP Peak )||4.476 KW|
|Sparnod Fitness STH-1200 (3 HP Peak)||2.238 KW|
|Durafit Ranger Multifunction 3.5 HP (7.0 HP Peak)||5.222 KW|
Here are all the treadmills that you should get for your home.
Btw manual treadmills do not need any electricity.
What Factors Determine the Electricity Consumption of a Treadmill
Treadmills are one of the most energy-efficient workout equipment that can offer you an intense workout and still keep you cool during long sessions. The main factors influencing the power consumption of treadmills is the motor type.
While we should also take into account a number of other factors, like running speed, user weight, worn out belt degree, this is a step-by-step guide to help you learn how to tighten your belt, if you haven’t already.
A DC motor treadmill consumes a less electricity when compared to non DC motor. But now a days most of the treadmill do come with a DC motor. These motors are energy efficient.
Higher the motor capacity, higher the electric consumption will be. You can see from the chart that premium treadmills of 7 HP consumes almost double electricity than a basic treadmill.
The faster you run, the more fuel you use and the more energy you consume. So if you work at full speed for half an hour, your energy consumption will be much higher than it is if you only work at half-speed for half an hour.
Duration of usages
The longer you use the treadmill, higher the electric consumption will be. If the treadmill is at home and is used by multiple individuals, it may be a little more demanding to measure, because everybody goes or runs at different times.
Treadmills are a great way to burn calories and improve fitness. However, they can also be a costly investment. When looking to purchase a treadmill, it’s important to consider how many people in your home use the treadmill as well as how much electricity it consumes. If you live in an apartment, a home gym may be a better option for your needs. Do you have any questions about electric usages in India? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
